The Blog
Welcome to the Myomectomy Prep Blog, where I share information on my personal experience with uterine fibroids, myomectomy surgery preparation and recovery, and heavy periods. I talk you through how I use Nutritional Therapy to help clients before and after surgery to recover and heal more quickly.
How to Prepare for Myomectomy Surgery
10 Key Areas to Focus On
Welcome to Myomectomy Prep 101 — your go-to guide for preparing for fibroid surgery the smart, holistic way.
I’ve created a free Myomectomy Prep Checklist for women getting ready for myomectomy surgery. It’s practical, easy to follow, and covers all 10 key areas from my ebook Myomectomy Survival Guide. Think of it as your roadmap — clear, supportive, and grounded in both science and lived experience.
Why This Matters — Especially for Black Women
As we wrap up UK Black History Month 2025 and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s a good time to highlight something often overlooked:
Black women are more likely to develop uterine fibroids than any other group.
Fibroids can disrupt our fertility and quality of life, often leading to surgery, whether myomectomy (removing fibroids) or hysterectomy (removing the womb). It’s an issue that affects us globally, from London to Lagos to Atlanta.
What Inspired the Myomectomy Prep Protocol
When I faced fibroids, I couldn’t find one clear, evidence-based guide.
I came across:
- A blog by a Black British woman sharing her post-surgery pregnancy story
- Naturopaths pushing endless herbal blends
- Contradictory diet advice
- And one nutrition lecture that left me more confused than informed
So I turned my curiosity and my training in Biomedical Engineering into a mission. I read medical books, analyzed nutritional studies, and connected the dots. Over time, I built a holistic picture of how to support the body before and after surgery.
That research became the foundation for the Myomectomy Survival Guide and this free checklist.
The 10 Pillars of Myomectomy Prep
Here’s what the checklist helps you focus on:
- 💧 Hydration – Fuel recovery at the cellular level
- 🧠 Mindset – Calm the nervous system, boost resilience
- 🥦 Nutrition – Eat to support hormonal and metabolic balance
- 🌿 Digestion & Elimination – Help the body detox effectively
- 💊 Vitamin & Mineral Balance – Correct key nutrient gaps
- 🍭 Blood Sugar Balance – Keep insulin in check (fibroids thrive on imbalance)
- 💤 Sleep Quality – Support healing and hormone regulation
- 💪 Exercise – Restore strength without strain
- ☯️ Hormonal Balance – Work with your body, not against it
- 🌸 Stress Management – Lower cortisol, support fertility
These ten areas help you prepare mentally and physically for surgery and set the stage for smoother recovery.
Fibroids, Blood Sugar & Metabolic Health: The Overlooked Connection
My deep interest in metabolic health began years ago.
My older brother had Type 1 diabetes, and my grandmother had Type 2. Both relied on insulin.
As a 23-year-old engineering student, I wanted to understand why.
Over time, medical research is connecting the dots and a picture is starting to emerge.
Research shows that vitamin D deficiency, poor blood sugar regulation, and high insulin levels may fuel fibroid growth. When I heard this connection from a doctor in the low-carb field, it changed everything!
It also explained why conditions like Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure are more common among certain groups e.g. women of African descent and why fibroids often show up in the same conversation.
My mission is clear:
To help women preserve their fertility, protect their wombs, and take control of their metabolic and reproductive health.
A Little About Me
I’m Claire, a biomedical engineer and a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP).
An Oxford University educated ex-Engineering Consultant, science-driven, and passionate about women’s health.
In engineering, we talk about “first principles thinking.”
In nutrition, we call it “root-cause analysis.”
Either way, I’m obsessed with understanding how the human body really works and helping women work with theirs, not against it.
That’s why the Myomectomy Prep Checklist is completely free, and the Myomectomy Survival Guide is priced accessibly for women across the globe. You can also join our private Reddit community and discussion.
